Dramatic footage has shown heavily armed police swarm an allegedly stolen truck and using weapons to stop the driver, leaving bullet holes in the windscreen.
The police, from the tactical operations unit, swarmed the truck after it crashed in Smithfield on the intersection of the Cumberland Hwy and Sturt St.
The footage showed one officer firing a weapon into the cab of the truck, which left holes in the windscreen.
A second police officer shot at the truck’s tyres.
A police spokesperson said no live rounds were fired in the incident and the holes were the result of other “tactical options” being deployed by police.
The 33 year-old driver was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.
He will appear in court on Tuesday.
Police said the truck was reported stolen overnight from a home at Carter St in Lidcombe, before they found the truck travelling on the Western Motorway near Reservoir Rd, Blacktown, around 8.40am on Monday.
The driver allegedly failed to stop, before embarking on an attempted getaway through west and southwest Sydney.
The truck even managed to drive through police road spikes at Oran Park, as the chase continued.
Police cancelled the pursuit but continued monitoring the truck as it travelled through Sydney suburbs Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Bankstown and Cumberland.
Police said the vehicle allegedly collided with a semi-trailer at Sturt Street, Smithfield, before officers appeared on scene.
The driver allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to assault police.
The man was subsequently arrested and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being transported to Westmead Hospital for further treatment.
He was charged with multiple dangerous driving offences, resisting arrest and weapons offences.
